Greetings and Welcome Angelenos,
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.
I am a veteran “Deputy Assessor” with 26 years of actual hands-on work experience in the Assessor’s Office.
I am the ONLY candidate with the most years of work experience, that is fully crossed-trained, California State Certified; and has worked in both Real Property and Personal Property.
While working at the Assessor’s office I have rotated through-out the office to different positions and assignments. I have seen first-hand and experienced the problems, deficiencies, and years of work backlogs that have plagued, and "continue to plague" the Assessor’s office. This undermines taxpayers' ability to be assessed timely and fairly. In addition, this has pushed both taxpayer and employee morale to an all-time low.
With my degree in Management and Human Resources and my 26 years of actual hands-on work experience, I am capable and eager to tackle the inefficiencies and work backlog that have troubled the Assessor’s office FOR YEARS. When elected, I will “SERVE THE PUBLIC” efficiently, effectively, timely, and most importantly “FAIRLY”.
MY TOP PRIORITIES:
-
RESTORE Public Trust: I will ensure ALL taxpayers are treated fairly by establishing a fully transparent office. No secrets. No closed doors. No special deals for special friends. FAIRNESS TO ALL.
-
SAVE Proposition 13: We must protect homeowners, taxpayers, and senior citizens from being excessively taxed and forced out of their homes. Saving Proposition 13 will also help the local neighborhood mom & pop store owners.
-
INCREASE Homeowners' Exemption: Homeowners' exemption was last updated in 1974 to $7,000, saving homeowners roughly $70. It is long overdue for an update and an increase. I will support and help write legislation to increase homeowners' exemption from $7,000 to $500,000, which will increase the tax savings from approximately $70 to $5,000. This is a more meaningful tax savings for taxpayers.
In addition, I would support legislation that would “TOTALLY ELIMINATE PROPERTY TAX FOR HOMEOWNERS” who occupy their home as their “principal place of residence”.
- Other States are in the process of eliminating property tax. I would help California do the same.
Totally eliminating property tax will help fixed-income senior citizens keep their homes. This will also greatly help the younger generation as first-time home buyers. People who pay rent can generally afford a mortgage. It’s the addition of a constantly increasing property tax that is a barrier to entry for most people.
-
SUPPORT Disabled Veterans: I will initiate and/or support legislation that will EXPAND the property tax exemption to ALL disabled veterans and Active Duty Servicemembers, up to $500,000 in assessed value.
I am seeking this office to implement positive changes at the Assessor’s Office. I am NOT a career politician. I am a concerned taxpayer like you. I am in touch and understand the needs of the public, taxpayers, and the employees. I will continue to treat everyone with RESPECT, FAIRNESS, HONESTY, INTEGRITY, TRANSPARENCY, and GOODWILL.
As a public servant for 26 years, I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving our community and you.
Thank you kindly for your time and your vote!!
All the best,
Sandy Sun for Assessor 2026
